SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Qualified African American and Hispanic students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities now have a leg up on admission to LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. That's because the medical school and Southern University of Shreveport have signed a Memorandum of Understanding guaranteeing qualified students an interview. In order to qualify, top students need to participate in an Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP), which is typically done in the summer. The students would also need a minimum of 80 hours of health care shadowing or comparable work experience and 80 hours of community service. "The criteria for this are equal, if not more than for regular admission, " said LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine Chancellor Dr. G. E. Ghali. LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine typically has a total of 150 spots with over 6, 000 applicants, but this program will ensure minority students do not get overlooked, Dr. Ghali said.

Most "craft their curricula with a focus on practical skills, " and they "offer a wide variety of approaches to legal thought. " As one student shares, "Each course is challenging and intellectually stimulating. " Professors are also able to offer help outside the classroom, as many "are well-known and respected in the Boston legal community, … [which is a] huge asset when looking for jobs or internships. " Overall, they "are top-notch in their qualifications and helpfulness" and "want their students to be good citizens and use their legal knowledge to be stewards of justice. " Students admit that some of the classrooms "are slightly outdated, " but the law library "is in excellent shape and is well-maintained. " They also note that any "technical resources are high quality and robust. " Another benefit is that the administration "is making great strides to address student comfort and mental health, " and they are "extremely responsive to student concerns. " Career Services "is extremely helpful in preparing 1Ls for on-campus interviewing and applying to big law firms, " the only caveat being that "the infrastructure is definitely one that feeds towards big law. SEE: Working from home: The future of business is remote (ZDNet/TechRepublic special feature) | Working from home: How to get remote right (free PDF) (TechRepublic) Across all households, the economists established that an extra 3. 8% of earnings would be necessary to cover the housing cost of switching to remote work. For those on lower incomes, the estimation jumps to 15% more income; on the other hand, the most well-off households would not require any additional compensation to offset the new expenses. Given the number of external factors that might influence the results of the analysis, the research goal was somewhat of a mathematical nightmare, and the economists had to model their way around a few stumbling blocks. In a scientifically ideal scenario, the households compared would have had to be perfectly identical, except for their choices to work remotely. Using data from the American Community Survey between 2013 and 2017, Stanton and Tiwari, therefore, looked at households with similar characteristics: for example, they would have been from the same commuting area, with similar income levels, and had the same number of children.
