Generally, EPM System products use a login screen to capture the user name and password, which are usedto authenticate users. Instead of using EPM System authentication, you can write a customauthentication module to authenticate users belonging to the user directory configured in anEPM System environment. Implementing a custom authentication module does not involve modifying the EPM Systemproducts. You deploy the custom Java module on the server to seamlessly integrate your ownauthentication module with EPM System. A custom authentication module may be used with both the thick clients (for example, OracleHyperion Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition, and Oracle Essbase Studio) and thin clients(for example, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Workspace, Fusion Edition). The custom authentication module uses the information a user enters when logging into anEPM System product. If enabled for a user directory, it authenticates users through the customauthentication module. On successfully authenticating the user, the custom authenticationmodule returns the user name.
This scenario assumes that the custom authentication module uses an RSAinfrastructure to authenticate users. Table 1 Setup for Scenario 1 User Directory Typeand Name Search Order CustomAuthentication Sample UserNames Password* Native Directory 1 Disabled test_user_1 test_user_2 test_user_3 password LDAP-Enabled SunONE_West 2 Disabled test_ldap1 test_ldap_2 test_user_3 test_ldap_4 ldappassword LDAP-Enabled SunONE_East 3 Enabled test_ldap1 test_ldap_2 test_user_3 ldappassword onSunONE and RSAPIN in custommodule *For simplicity, it is assumed that all users use the same user directory password. To initiate the authentication process, a user enters a user name and password in the login screenof an EPM System product. In this scenario, the custom authentication module performs the following actions: l Accepts a user name and RSA PIN as the user credentials l Returns a user name in username@providername format; for example, test_ldap_2@SunON
EPM today—from on-premises to the cloud
Over the past couple of decades, EPM software platforms evolved from Windows-based client/server systems to internet-enabled, web browser-based applications. Today, there's an increasing demand for cloud-based EPM software, also known as software as a service (SaaS). When EPM software is "in the cloud" it simply means that the application is housed on a network of remote servers, instead of at a company's location. The cloud offers a more affordable alternative for EPM that lowers both operational expenses (OpEx) and capital expenses (CapEx), because it eliminates the need for companies to purchase software and hardware or hire additional IT staff. With no costly infrastructure to support, resources can be invested in growth opportunities, while employees can focus on more value-added tasks instead of managing IT. Evolution of EPM

Lotus 1-2-3 and VisiCalc to automate budgeting.
The impact on decision-making is widespread, from tactical (which vendor to pay first) to operational (budget reallocations) to strategic (mergers and acquisitions). Beyond decision-making, these technologies can automate routine tasks to eliminate manual labor and reduce the likelihood of errors. There are many tasks in the financial close and reconciliation process that fall into this category. This type of automation will free up valuable time for finance professionals to engage with operations and spend more time providing the forward-looking guidance that management needs to capitalize on the next opportunity. Embracing EPM in the Cloud—the suite always wins over point solutions
An important characteristic of modern EPM cloud is the unified solution or applications suite. When compared to deploying a single-point software application—such as consolidations or planning and budgeting—an EPM cloud suite offers the best advantage. A complete solution integrates management processes across the organization, aligning strategy with execution.
You can use a custom authentication module with thick clients(for example, Oracle Essbase Studio and Oracle Smart Space, Fusion Edition) and thin clients(for example, EPM Workspace). Implementing a Custom Authentication Module 3 To integrate with EPM System security, the custom authentication module must implement thepublic interface CSSCustomAuthenticationIF, defined in package as apart of the standard Oracle's Hyperion Shared Services APIs. See. Design and Coding Considerationsl Search Order on page 4 l Custom Module Implementation on page 8 l User Directories and Custom Authentication Module on page 8 l CSSCustomAuthenticationIF Java Interface on page 8 Search OrderIn addition to Native Directory, multiple user directories can be configured in Shared Services. A default search order position is assigned to all configured user directories. You can modify thesearch order from Oracle's Hyperion Shared Services Console. Excepting Native Directory, youcan remove configured user directories from the search order.
The following illustration presents a sample custom authentication scenario: For example, you can use RSA SecurID infrastructure as the custom provider to ensuretransparent strong authentication to EPM System clients products. The overview of steps: 1. The user enters credentials (generally, user name and password) to access an EPM Systemproduct. These credentials should uniquely identify the user to the provider used by thecustom authentication module. For example, if you are using an RSA SecurID infrastructureto authenticate users, the user enters an RSA user ID and PIN (not an EPM System user IDand password). 2 Implementing a Custom Authentication Module 2. Using the search order (see Search Order on page 4), EPM System cycles throughconfigured user directories to locate the user. l If the current user directory is not configured for custom authentication, EPM Systemtries to locate and authenticate the user through EPM System authentication. l If the user directory is configured for custom authentication, EPM System delegates theauthentication process to the custom module.
The present global market is more competitive than ever before, and what makes it more competitive is its fast changing nature. Organizations need to adapt, and key to that is managing mission-critical processes in a better way than through spreadsheets and point solutions. That's where Oracle's market-leading performance management applications come in handy. They are really effective since they integrate the elements of strategy, planning and execution into one seamless process. Though each of these performance management applications can be independently deployed and lend a high degree of value, they work better when deployed together and integrate strategic, financial and operational management processes while delivering low deployment cost and ownership. At Nalsoft, we implement Oracle Hyperion applications leveraging workflow, modeling, reporting and OLAP through business management applications supporting all aspects of business performance management. We offer the best configuration procedures and processes for assisting end-users through access, analysis, sharing and acting on data.
