Hey guys, I guess I should start this off by saying I am 25 years old and was born and raised in Italy. I am however an American citizen and am a little late to the game for learning about credit. I want to know what it is I can do to start building credit and paying off my collections. I don't have many, I believe the total is under 1, 000$. I simply don't know anything about getting a credit card, which would be best, and what to do with it once I've used it. If anyone has the time to give me an in-depth rundown on what exactly my next steps should be that would be incredibly helpful as I keep seeing everyone around me with good credit and I'm sitting at a 553, which I've heard is "bad credit". I'm not super worried but it's certainly time to start taking a proactive approach with my credit. We all have to start somewhere and I just don't know anything about getting this going. Any kind of advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone and everyone who comments!

I'm 29(m) with a very low credit score. I never had a credit card. I have a little debt I'm slowly paying off from back when I was younger probably about $4k in total. the problem is I don't like to spend money I don't have so I never bothered with a credit card. I have about a thousand dollars in my emergency count, and my spending habits are pretty decent (Frugal Vandross I like to call myself lol). I think I have a good standing with my bank which is a credit union. My account is always positive. I'm getting ready to move to another state in a few months so I'll probably implement these strategies afterwards just to be safe. Edit: monthly income is about $2100 a month after taxes. After bills I have about 600-800 spending left.
Starting to build credit rates
I have applied to exactly one credit card yesterday and got rejected. (no big deal; I was just testing the waters) Today, when I went to check my report with, and they said they couldn't display my score because my identity was flagged with possible identity fraud and now I'm freaking out. Is this because I tried to check my report without having credit history or should I seriously be concerned?

Both services allow you to pump up your credit history by linking your bank accounts. Experian Boost counts streaming, cell phone, and utility payments in your banking transactions toward your payment history. UltraFICO TM is a different type of scoring model that uses the balances and activity in your bank accounts to potentially enhance your score. Lenders may offer you the chance to opt in when you apply for credit. Currently, these services can only increase your credit score with Experian. There are two other credit bureaus, Equifax and TransUnion, that also calculate consumer credit scores. That limitation means you shouldn't rely entirely on Experian Boost and UltraFICO TM. But they can help to build at least one of your credit scores. Building credit in 2021 It's not a big deal if your credit file's blank right now. There are more ways to build credit fast than ever before. If you make that your goal for 2021, you could be closing in on a good credit score by the end of the year.
Having never owned a credit card before Im going to start building my credit score And from researching credit cards and what cards are best to build credit with i was directed to the Discover IT Secured card and the Capital one platinum Secured card. Both of which require a deposit to act as a credit line. My question is should i apply for both of these cards and put a deposit on both or just get one?
